Comparative insecticide resistance of New Zealand and North American populations of diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera: Piuteiiidae)

چکیده
The susceptibility of two New Zealand populations of diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella, to insecticides from three classes was compared with the susceptibility of a standard North American population (Geneva 88) in laboratory assays at the New York Experiment Station during 1993. Leaf dip assays showed that the New Zealand populations had developed moderate resistance to permethrin compared with the Geneva 88 population, but were still susceptible to methamidophos, Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki, and B. thuringiensis subsp. aizawai. One of the New Zealand populations, Pukekohe 1, was 10 times more resistant to permethrin at the LC50 compared to the Geneva 88 population. This level of resistance was consistent with the greater use of synthetic pyrethroids, particularly permethrin, compared with other insecticides on vegetable brassicas at Pukekohe. Use of the Pukekohe 1 population as a standard for resistance assays in New Zealand indicated that diamondback moth from a reported

Insecticide Resistance in Plutella xylostella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae) in the Federal District, Brazil
The levels of resistance to the insecticides cartap, deltamethrin and metamidophos were evaluated for three populations of the Diamondback Moth Plutella xylostella (L.) from the Federal District, Brazil in laboratory bioassays. The larvae of DBM showed levels of resistance to deltamethrin between 4 and 47 fold relative to a susceptible laboratory strain. The level of resistance to metamidophos ...

The diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella has been developed resistance to many groups of pesticides including of pyrethroids. The present study was conducted to evaluate the toxicity of deltamethrin on the third instar larvae of six populations of the pest using leaf dipping method. The results showed that different populations had different susceptibilities to deltamethrin. At the LC50 level,...
متن کاملDevelopment of genetic markers to study dispersal of Diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.) in Australia
The origin and insecticide resistance status of Diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella) populations infesting canola, vegetables, forage brassicas and weeds has fundamental implications for management of the pest in Australia. Diamondback moth is considered a migratory species in the Northern Hemisphere, but although there is evidence that Diamondback moth moves en-masse throughout Australia in ...
متن کاملInsecticide resistance in diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.), in southern Australia
Synthetic pyrethroids have been the most widely used insecticide group for control of Plutella xylostella in southern Australia since the early 1980’s. Insecticide resistance in Australian populations of P. xylostella was first confirmed in Queensland in 1987. Since then, resistant populations have developed throughout southern Australia with reports of insecticide control failures coming from ...
متن کاملSpread and global population structure of the diamondback moth Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) and its larval parasitoids Diadegma semiclausum and Diadegma fenestrale (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) based on mtDNA.
The diamondback moth (DBM) (Plutella xylostella) is one of the main pests of brassicaceous crops worldwide and shows resistance against a wide range of synthetic insecticides incurring millions of dollars in control costs every year. The DBM is a prime example of the introduction of an exotic species as a consequence of globalization. In this study we analyzed the genetic population structure o...
